PAYETTE, Idaho — An inmate who escaped in the middle of the day by scaling a prison fence, going right over razor wire, is making continuous updates to a Facebook while authorities continue to search for him.

KBOI reports that Nicholas Grove escaped the morning of Aug. 26, and even though he is making status updates on a page linked to him, authorities say there’s no way to track his location.

“Scared shi***** is climbing through razor wire, running through fields of broken glass and goat heads in nothing but socks while three counties of people who want to shoot you are chasing after you then leaving without even the clothes on your back to a place you’ve never been with 100$ in your pocket,” one status reads.

The account is set to private, and trying to track someone via the Wi-Fi signal they’re using is also problematic.

“The IP address would have to be supplied by Facebook, that could tell who or what IP address was used to do a particular post,” said President and CEO of Reveal Digital Forensics and Security. “But a person could use a free Wi-Fi virtually an place.”

He did say that posts on the page by friends could help detectives.

“I’ve had more help from total strangers than any of my ‘friends’ or family,” Grove wrote, and others responded.

“Nick I just know you have people that do care!! And I am glad people are helping you, just please be safe!!”

Grove had been in jail since Aug. 15 for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit, possession of burglary tools and an invalid license. He also made a status update taking a shot at local media.

“[And] whatever the news says, I’m not a piece of shi*. I’m on a spiritual [pilgrimage].”

One friend is encouraging Grove to turn himself in.

“Man up cousin and [handle] your business so you can put this all behind you.”

Following Grove’s escape, the Payette County Sheriff’s Office is working to make the prison grounds more secure.

“We’ve talked about initially adding a fence outside the fence that’s taller with more rows of razor wire,” Lt. Andy Creech said. “You’d have to essentially get over two fences to get out of the facility.”
