FORT WAYNE — An inmate, who somehow escaped from the Allen County Work Release Center on Thursday evening, stole an SUV and crashed into a police cruiser and a house, according to a sheriff’s department spokesman.

The inmate, Brian Isaac, 38, left the minimum-security facility on Lima Road and went to a nearby gas station where he stole the SUV, Cpl. Jeremy Tinkel said. Police caught up with him, and he struck a Fort Wayne squad car, but the officer at the wheel was not hurt.

Isaac then ran the vehicle into a house in the 4000 block of Carroll Road and fled on foot before police arrested him. No one in the house was injured, Tinkel said. It was unclear late Thursday what charges Isaac would face.
