SAN ANTONIO — A man convicted of stabbing his boss to death at her northwest Harris County horse stables five years ago remains on the loose today, more than a week after he and another inmate escaped from a state prison near San Antonio.
Jose Fernando Bustos-Diaz, 21, sentenced to 35 years in prison for the murder of Deborah Gail Kay at The Oaks of Kendalwood stables on FM 529, and inmate Octavio Ramos Lopez, 27, escaped April 6 from the Briscoe prison unit in Dilley, which houses medium- and minimum-security prisoners.
Investigators believe the men, both from Mexico, have crossed the border. They also believe the escapees had help from someone on the outside, said John Moriarty, inspector general for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
