MARION, IL — Freedom was short lived for three inmates who escaped from the U.S. Penitentiary in Marion, on Friday night.
“It was shortly before 8:00 p.m. when our deputy spotted a car on Ogden Road with a woman driving and three males inside,” said Lt. Jeff Webb with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office. “When the deputy tried to make a traffic stop because the driver of the 2010 Beige Chevrolet Malibu was acting suspicious, she took off at speeds over a 100 mph up Illinois Route 148".
Police say the driver, Shoronda Washington of Chicago, then turned onto the road leading into the General Dynamics plant. When they tried to block her in, police say she went around them and continued North on 148.
