INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. — Indian River County Sheriff Deryl Loar has characterized the two inmates who escaped the Indian River County Jail Monday as ‘extremely dangerous.’
In a morning interview he said the men, Leviticus Taylor and Rondell Reed, were cellmates for a short time and their escape plan was put together “in very short order.”
Rondell Reed has gray hair, is 5' 11', weighs 180 pounds and is originally from Kentucky. Although a photo distributed of him shows him with a beard, the sheriff says he is currently clean shaven. He also has 9 tattoos on both arms.
The sheriff’s office says he has a history of shooting at law enforcement officers.
Leviticus Taylor is 5' 8" and weighs 140 pounds. The sheriff said he is from the area but has ties to Central Florida and Georgia and has multiple tattoos all over arms. His booking photo shows long hair but he now has a closely-cropped haircut.
Both men also have tattoos on their bodies.
Sheriff Loar said deputies are following leads that they had help on the outside, and they may have already left the area.
Both have pending first degree murder charges
“All resources are out in pursuit of the men,” according to the sheriff.
In addition, ‘Be on the lookout’ bulletins have been posted to state and national databases.
“We would consider them extremely dangerous...they have multiple arrests in their background,” the sheriff said.
The men escaped at approximately 4:54 a.m. Their red jump suits were found in a service area.
