GREENFIELD, Ind. — Authorities in Greenfield and Hancock County said Thursday morning they were searching for a man in handcuffs who escaped the Hancock County Jail.
According to police, shortly before 6 a.m., 45-year-old Anthony (Tony) Bowling escaped while being moved from a jail transport van to a secure area of the facility. Bowling was arrested earlier Thursday morning on non-violent warrants out of Johnson and Hancock counties.
There was a brief altercation with a jail officer, but no one was hurt. Sheriff’s officers say Bowling fled to the south of the jail, across a junk yard and scaled a fence. He was last seen going eastbound on the Pennsy Trail.
