BONNEVILLE COUNTY, Idaho — Robert Galand Rish was dismayed when Magistrate Judge Penny Stanford sentenced him to 30 days in the Bonneville County Jail.

Then he tried to run out of the courtroom, earning him a 175-day sentence and more frustration.

Idaho Falls Animal Control Officer David Blakeman, who was present for another case, restrained Rish while Bonneville County sheriff’s deputies took the man into custody after he tried to bolt.

In June, Rish violated the requirements of his probation when breathalyzer tests showed a blood alcohol content of .20, more than twice the legal limit. Rish’s probation prohibited him from using any controlled substance.

Rish admitted the violation Monday. His attorney asked Stanford to keep him on probation so he could avoid the 175-day sentence of his original crime.

Stanford settled on a 30-day sentence, which sparked Rish’s escape attempt.

When Rish was restrained, Stanford interrupted his stream of profanity by revoking his probation.

Rish’s subsequent apology was noted, but did not cause Stanford to have a change of heart.

Rish continued resisting officers and yelling profanities as he was removed from the courthouse.

He originally was arrested Aug. 10, 2010, for encouraging a minor to commit a crime, which is a misdemeanor.
