It is believed the inmate took advantage of an opportune moment rather than planning out the escape

WARREN COUNTY, Tenn. – An inmate escaped custody during transport to McMinnville, while still wearing handcuffs.

Warren County Sheriff’s deputies were transporting Dustin Gushwa from Chattanooga to the jail in McMinnville.

When they stopped for gas, he somehow slipped out of his leg shackles and took off running. Gushwa was still handcuffed, but he managed to get away.

The sheriff does not think the escape was planned, but Gushwa likely just took advantage of a moment when the deputy was distracted pumping the gas.
