NEWPORT, Tenn. — Cocke County authorities are searching for an inmate who escaped Sunday from the local jail, allegedly with the help of his girlfriend.

Johnny George Adams, 29, was being accompanied by a corrections officer as he collected kitchen supplies from an outbuilding outside the Cocke County Jail Annex at approximately 2:17 p.m. when he fled on foot, according to Sheriff Armando Fontes.

Adams, who was jailed on charges of credit card fraud, then jumped into a waiting vehicle allegedly being driven by Jennifer Folden, his girlfriend, the sheriff said.

Adams and Folden are believed to be traveling in a 1995, two- door gold Honda Accord, with a Tennessee license tag 687-YCW.
