SUTTON COUNTY, Texas — Sutton County sheriff’s deputies searched Tuesday for a Del Rio man who ran from the county’s jail Monday morning.
Sheriff Joe Fincher said Jose Luis Trevino Jr., 20, was being transferred from his cell to a workout area about 9:30 a.m. when he ran out of the jail. Fincher said the door that led to the sheriff’s office, and subsequently the front door, was slightly ajar.
“It was inadvertently left unlocked,” Fincher said. "(Trevino) noticed it not standing shut.”
The ensuing search included Texas Department of Public Safety troopers, the Sutton County Sheriff’s Office, Sonora Police Department, a Texas Ranger out of Ozona and the Border Patrol.
The Texas Department of Criminal Justice also dispatched officers and bloodhounds from several prison units, Fincher said.
Trevino is 6 feet tall and 200 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a white shirt and pants emblazoned with “Sutton County Jail.”
Trevino was booked into Sutton County Jail on Dec. 28 on a charge of car theft, a state jail felony punishable by 180 days to two years in state jail and a fine up to $10,000.
Fincher said he is not aware of any family or friends Trevino may have in Sutton County.
Evading an officer on foot is a Class B misdemeanor punishable by up to 180 days in county jail and a fine up to $2,000. Evading an officer by car is a state jail felony punishable by 180 days to two years in state jail and a fine up to $10,000.
Anyone with information on Trevino can call the Sutton County Sheriff’s Office at 325-987-2288.
