NEWPORT, Tenn. — A Cocke County Jail inmate who escaped last month has been apprehended in Illinois.
Johnny Adams, 29, was captured Saturday in Grundy County, Ill., Cocke County Sheriff Armando Fontes said.
Adams, of Newport, escaped Nov. 13 with the help of his girlfriend, Jennifer Folden, authorities said. He was being accompanied by a corrections officer as he collected kitchen supplies from an out building outside the jail annex at about 2:20 p.m. when he fled on foot.
Adams, who at the time was jailed on credit card fraud charges, then jumped into a waiting vehicle allegedly being driven by Folden, Fontes said.
Warrants were issued for their arrest and the couple were captured in Illinois by Minooka Police Department officers.
