Man’s laundry escape earns him 15 years

Fell three stories from a vent and broke his arm in the escape attempt

FORD DODGE, Iowa — An inmate attempting to escape the Webster County Jail by climbing out a vent and breaking his arm in the process was sentenced to 15 years.

George Johnson, 32, was sentenced Monday in Webster County District Court, according to KCCI.

He pleaded guilty to charges of escape from custody and criminal mischief.

He and another inmate, Jason Sullivan, attempted to escape in August while doing laundry. They tied sheets together as a makeshift rope.

Johnson fell three stories and was taken to a hospital.

Sullivan was captured a few days later and also received a 15 year sentence.

Sullivan faced felony charges of domestic abuse and false imprisonment. Johsnon was booked on charges of burglary, theft, criminal mischief and a parole violation, according to WHO TV.
