TULSA, Okla. — An inmate was captured Monday evening, the same day he had escaped from an Oklahoma prison, officials said.
Mark Dwayne Smith, 28, was last seen at the Jackie Brannon Correction Center in McAlester at 5:30 a.m. (6:30 a.m. ET) Monday.
Smith was captured at a motel in Tulsa, Oklahoma at about 7:40 p.m. (8:40 p.m. ET), said Rick Moham, deputy warden of the prison.
Also arrested at the motel was two accomplices who allegedly aided Smith in the getaway, Moham said.
Smith is serving prison sentences for assault and battery on a police officer and auto theft. He has been at the prison since April 2009.
