PICKENS COUNTY, S.C. — The Pickens County Sheriff’s Office is looking for an inmate who stole a car and drove away from a work site Saturday morning.
Deputies say Joshua Steven Sanchez, 26, was serving time at the Pickens County jail when he left a work site in Central.
A man had driven into the Pickens County Recycling Center on Chastain Road to drop off recyclable items. When he got out of his truck, he left the vehicle running.
That is when Sanchez jumped into the truck and drove off, according to deputies.
The truck was later found in the city limits of Easley.
Assistant sheriff Tim Morgan said the county’s jail personnel occasionally bring inmates along to help drop off recyclables.
Prisoners allowed on such errands are non-violent offenders.
