Sheriff: Murder suspect escapes from Hot Spring County jail

Scaled a 20-foot fence and used a blanket to cover razor wire at the top

PERLA, Ark. — Authorities in central Arkansas are searching for a murder suspect who escaped from county jail.

The Hot Spring County Sheriff’s Office says 24-year-old Cornell Huell escaped Sunday night and was last seen near Perla. He was being held on charges of capital murder, burglary and theft in connection to a February killing.

KATV-TV reports that sheriff’s office officials believe Huell scaled a 20-foot fence and used a blanket to cover razor wire at the top.

Authorities are searching for Huell, who they say is dangerous and shouldn’t be approached. They have asked people with information about him to call the county emergency dispatch center.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Huell has an attorney.
