DENVER — A teenage inmate taken to a hospital in Denver escaped through a bathroom.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said a youth corrections officer was with 18-year-old Alyxander Stephen Yawn at Presbyterian St Luke’s Hospital on Tuesday morning.
After the doctor asked the officer to remove the teen’s restraints — the handcuffs and leg restraints — the teen went into the restroom.
“After approximately 60 seconds, the Corrections Officer went to check on him and he was gone,” according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. “He had fled through the adjoining door which was unsecure.”
The teen was last seen wearing gray pants and a burgundy/purple short sleeve polo shirt.
If you see Yawn, deputies say do not approach him, but call Detective Scott Mackey with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office at 719-390-5555.
KRDO-TV reported that Yawn was serving time for misdemeanor charges in El Paso County.
