[Update] Search for Texas prison escapee continues

Editor’s note: KWTX.com is reporting that fugitive Texas prison inmate David Puckett, 27, was in custody Tuesday in Omaha, Neb., six days after his escape from a state prison unit. Puckett was reportedly captured at the apartment of a female friend who was also taken into custody.

HOUSTON -- Authorities spent the weekend unsuccessfully searching for an man who escaped from a state prison in Beaumont last week.

David R. Puckett, 27, fled a recreation yard at the Stiles Prison Unit in Beaumont on Wednesday night, TDCJ says.

Puckett, 27, was serving a 30-year sentence for the aggravated assault of a public servant out of Lavaca County. He is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall and 155 pounds with a scar on his right arm. He has brown hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a white prison inmate uniform.

He was seen around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital. He might have also gone to Texas Children’s Hospital and the Baylor Clinic in the Texas Medical Center on Main, which was placed on lockdown for several hours Friday.

About 1 a.m. Friday, Medical Center police discovered a Chevrolet pickup used in the escape at the Extended Stay Deluxe at 1300 S. Braeswood, a TDCJ spokesman said.

No information on his whereabouts or the search was available Sunday.
