OKLAHOMA CITY – Two female inmates attempted escape over the weekend by attacking a correctional officer.
News 9 reports that Rheea Roque and Kristine Orrantia asked a correctional officer for a change of clothes and then attacked the officer in the changing area.
Both women had plans of escaping to Mexico.
The officer was able to radio for help during the attack, and the inmates were both subdued.
The officer was not seriously injured in the incident.
“The employee did an incredibly job of defending herself from two violent inmates who were set on making an escape,” Sheriff John Whetsel said. “Training kicked in for this employee and she was able to get the help she needed.”
Roque was serving time for a felony conviction and drug possession; she is now facing. Orrantia was being held on a warrant from Texas for escaping from jail along with other felony convictions.
Both are now facing assault on an officer charges, attempting to escape, and Roque was charged with operating a radio capable of receiving law enforcement transmissions.
Both remain in the Oklahoma County Jail.
