Fla. correctional officer recovering after juvenile inmate riot

TAMPA — A correctional officer injured in a juvenile inmate riot over the weekend is recovering this morning.

FOX News reports that dozens of juvenile detainees at the Les Peters Juvenile Corrections Academy rioted around 12:30 a.m. Police officers were called to help regain control of the facility.

During the incident, a female correctional officer was spit on and knocked to the ground.

Seven juveniles are now facing charges for starting the incident, ranging from felonies to misdemeanors.

The officer suffered only minor injuries, but the facility sustained at least $1,000 worth of damage.

The Les Peters Academy is a level-6 juvenile correctional facility. It is currently secure and operating as normal.
