JACKSON — The former warden and assistant warden of the Jackson Correctional Institution have been awarded more than $340,000 in a whistle-blower action they brought alleging retaliation and gross misconduct by investigators with the Florida Department of Corrections’ Office of Inspector General.

Leon County jurors last week awarded damages to Ted Jeter, the prison’s former warden, and Carolann Bracewell, the former assistant warden, for lost pay and benefits. Jeter was awarded $205,000, and Bracewell was awarded nearly $136,000, according to court documents.

As part of the judgment, Jeter and Bracewell will be reinstated at DOC, although it isn’t yet clear where they will be assigned, said their attorney, Marie Mattox of Tallahassee. They also will be seeking attorneys fees from DOC, she added.
