MONROE COUNTY, Wis. — The mother of a Wis. Inmate has nothing but praise for a local detention center that her son spent a few months in.
The woman cited safety, medical care, and professionalism as some of Vernon County Jail’s virtues. She stated that Vernon County doesn’t have horror stories of smuggled drugs and overdoses, and that the medical care offered by Janet Reed, a nurse who is also the local coroner, comes from a woman who genuinely cares about the inmates.
She praised the corrections officers that she interacted with as “professional and courteous,” which was consistent across all shifts.
“As a parent, it has been challenging at times when my son has been incarcerated,” she wrote to the LaCrosse Tribune.
“But it is absolutely priceless to know that in Vernon County, he is in a safe, secure, professionally-run environment. Vernon County has set the bar high for jail standards and hopefully other counties in the future [will] provide a similar safe environment with their jails.”
