Md. prison official fired for Facebook joke about COs

Was accompanying corrections secretary on prison tour when he made a post about being groped by COs

BALTIMORE — A high-ranking Maryland correctional official was fired for making ‘inappropriate comments’ on Facebook about correctional officers.

The Washington Post reports that Michael A. Allred was hired a few weeks ago to oversee the compilation of statistics and serve as the department’s liaison to the law enforcement community.

While he accompanied the department’s new secretary, Stephen T. Moyer, on a tour of several Jessup prisons, he allegedly posted: “Visiting the prisons … haven’t been groped this much since the flight on the honeymoon … and this is just the guards!”

He even went so far as to tag his boss, Moyer, and “Maryland House of Correction” in the post.

A department spokesperson confirmed the authenticity of the post.

Within hours of the post, Allred was fired.

A statement released by the department says that Moyer holds his staff to “the highest professional standards” and “requires all employees to respect the department, their authority, and their peers.”
