PHILADELPHIA — A prisoner accidentally released last month was picked up without incident Tuesday night and returned to the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility, prison officials announced yesterday.

Prison officials admitted that a paperwork error led to the accidental release of Shamir Robinson, 21, on Dec. 20. Robinson was readmitted to CFCF at 9:13 a.m. yesterday after being picked up without incident from a relative’s home.

Robinson was released last month after a judge sentenced him to time served for a 2010 robbery. The prison didn’t realize that there was an earlier court order revoking Robinson’s bail and house arrest and returning him to custody for a 2009 aggravated-assault and robbery case.

That case had been mistakenly cleared in prison records, said prison spokesman Robert Eskind.

The prison realized the mistake after Robinson showed up Monday for his scheduled court appearance for the 2009 case but didn’t make it inside courtroom 708. A bench warrant was issued by Judge Peter F. Rogers.

Robinson’s release is still under investigation.

Two months before Robinson’s accidental release, inmate Kevin Turner escaped from CFCF on Oct. 12 and killed jeweler William Glatz during a botched robbery nine days later. Turner was also killed during the robbery.

In that case, Eskind said, two Aramark employees were dismissed, as well as a kitchen officer who failed to share useful information before the event, and six correctional officers were suspended without pay. A disciplinary charge against one officer was not sustained.
