ARMSTRONG COUNTY, Pa. — Warden David Hogue was recently named the Pennsylvania Prison Warden’s Association 2014 “Warden of the Year.”

According to the Kittanning Paper, Hogue has held the position since 2005.

“I was shocked – I never saw it coming,” he said. “It was an honor for Armstrong County.”

The Pennsylvania Prison Warden’s Association has chosen one warden out of the 67 counties and more state prisons in the Commonwealth per year for its top award since 1977.

In April, Hogue celebrated 30 years of service at the jail, where he started as a CO and worked his way up.

“I put my application in and that’s how it started, 30 years ago. 30 years go before you know it.”

Hogue was nominated for the award based on jail performance and Commissioner Richard Fink said it’s well deserved.

“Our warden has operated under-budget since he became the warden and he’s always looking for ways to bring in revenue,” Fink said. “He’s very conservative, doesn’t spend one more dime than he has to.”

Warden Hogue hopes to continue to run a cost-effective and clean jail.
