MONTPELIER, Vt. — An employee of the Vermont Department of Corrections is being elevated to the post of deputy commissioner.
The appointment of Cheryl Ward Elovirta was announced Tuesday by Gov. Peter Shumlin.
Elovirta brings 19 years of human service and criminal justice experience to the job, most recently serving as a field services operations manager for the Department of Corrections.
Elovirta replaces Lisa Menard, who was recently appointed commissioner after Andy Pallito became the state’s finance commissioner.
Shumlin says Elovirta’s knowledge of the department make her ideal for her new job.
