Wyo. DOC receives ACA’s highest award

Commitment to Excellence Award presented to WDOC in recognition of an outstanding contribution to corrections

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The American Correctional Association (ACA) and the Commission on Accreditation for Corrections presented its highest honor for commitment to excellence to the Wyoming Department of Corrections (WDOC) during a ceremony held in Long Beach , California on February, 9, 2015.

The Commitment to Excellence Award, also known as the Golden Eagle Award, was presented to WDOC in recognition of an outstanding contribution to corrections by accrediting all facilities and programs within its jurisdiction.

During the period April 2013 through February 2015, all five prisons in Wyoming, along with the WDOC training academy, central office, correctional industries program, and field services probation and parole offices across the state were assessed by ACA auditors and found to be in full compliance with nationally recognized performance-based standards.

The standards assessed cover all aspects of administration and management, institutional operations and services, such as staff training, adequacy of medical services, sanitation, use of segregation, incidents of violence, crowding, offender activity levels, programs, and provisions of basic services that may impact the quality of life, safety and health of inmates, as well as staff.
