23-year-old Texas CO dies in crash while returning to facility

HONDO, Texas — A corrections officer was killed in a vehicle crash on September 3 after she returned to her regular duty station.
According to Officer Down Memorial Page, Kaitlyn Ritnour, 23, was leaving the Ruben M. Torres Unit after working an assignment there. As she was driving to her normal station at the Briscoe Unit, Ritnour’s vehicle was hit by an oncoming car as she was merging into traffic. Ritnour died from her injuries on scene.
“Kaitlyn’s life was tragically taken too soon but her legacy of love will live on in the hearts of those she knew and loved,” Ritnour’s obituary read.
She had served with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice’s Correctional Institutions Division for five months. She leaves behind her fiancé, mother, father, sister and grandparents.
