LANSING — In order to reduce recidivism in the state, a new bill aims to help felons to find a job.
WWMT reports that 78 per cent of Michigan parolees are unemployed, which adds to the chance of repeat offenses.
The bill would allow the Department of Corrections to issue a certificate of employability to qualified prisoners 30 days before they’re paroled.
To qualify, a prison must have completed a career and technical education course. They must also have stayed out of trouble for two years.
The certificate of employability would be good for four years, but would be revoked immediately if the parolee committed another felony.
