LINCOLN, Neb. — Two inmates at Tecumseh State Prison are in solitary confinement after allegedly assaulting a correctional officer Wednesday.

A male officer was struck by the two inmates and received treatment from prison medical staff, according to James Foster, spokesman for the State Department of Correctional Services.

Other corrections officers used pepper spray to subdue the inmates before putting them in restraints, according to Omaha.com.

Department investigators are working to determine the cause of the attack and whether the incident requires additional investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol.

The medium-maximum-security prison was the site of a riot on May 10 that left two inmates dead and several more injured, including employees.
