WAYNESBURG, Pa. — Four corrections officers at the State Correctional Institution in Greene County were hospitalized Monday after being exposed to an unidentified substance, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported.

According to DOC officials, the officers began to feel ill while searching an inmate’s property,

“Our corrections officers’ safety is extremely important to us. The fact that these officers came in contact with a substance that may have made them ill, is something we do not take lightly,” said SCI Greene Superintendent Robert D. Gilmore in a press release.

Last week, six members of staff at the SCI in Mercer County were also treated at hospital about exposure to a suspicious substance, with one staff member requiring administration of the opioid-overdose antidote naloxone.
