Calif. CO injured in inmate attack

The CO who was attacked suffered a fractured nose, swelling on his head and neck and a cut on his upper lip

WASCO, Calif. — Officials said a CO was attacked by two inmates Sunday at the Wasco State Prison Reception Center.

Hanford Sentinel reported that inmate Anthony Sanchez, 25, asked to speak with staff in an office. Then he allegedly punched the CO in the face, put him in a choke hold and repeatedly punched his face and head.

Another inmate Albert Vasquez, 26, allegedly ran in and joined the attack. The publication reported physical force and chemical agents were used to stop the attack.

The CO suffered a fractured nose, head and neck swelling, and a cut on his lips. Two officers and a sergeant who came to his aid suffered minor injuries.

An investigation is ongoing and the inmates have been place in the prison’s Administrative Segregation Unit, according to the publication.
