SALE, Australia — Jail guards were bashed after telling two brothers they would not be given leave to attend a funeral sending the prison into lockdown.
An ambulance transported one staff member to Sale’s Gippsland Base Hospital with the man in his 40s suffering head and facial injuries.
Another seven others travelled by private vehicles to join him after violence broke out at the Fulham Correctional Centre in Gippsland about 10.30am yesterday.
The incident was the latest in a succession of dramas at the jail, near Sale, where staff have long complained they are not safe.
