NEWARK, Del. —The Delaware Department of Corrections is mourning the loss of one of their own after a corrections officer was killed in a motorcycle crash Monday.
The Dover Post reported that 21-year-old CO Elijah Green was driving on a highway and was in the left lane when he, for unknown reasons, lost control of the motorcycle. Green struck a guardrail in the median just as he was beginning to curve right, and the front tire was dislodged during the collision.
The officer was thrown from the motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Green has been with the Delaware DOC since last summer and was assigned to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center. He was also a corrections specialist in the Army Reserves.
“Correctional Officer Elijah Green was a promising young man with a bright future at the Department of Correction,” DOC Commissioner Perry Phelps said. “He will be greatly missed by everyone he encountered. The DOC family mourns alongside his loved ones and friends.”
Authorities are continuing to investigate the crash.
