JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Florida corrections officer has died after he suffered a heart attack during a training session for a charity boxing match.

WJXT reports that 40-year-old Orange County Sgt. Jerry Haddock died on Sunday morning, according to his family. Haddock was training for a charity boxing match that features officers fighting against firefighters.

Last week, Haddock just finished his training session when he suddenly collapsed near his car. Medical personnel performed CPR on him before he was sent to the hospital.

Haddock’s wife, who also works in law enforcement, said the officer had a clean bill of health during a recent checkup. In addition to his wife, Haddock leaves behind three teenage daughters.

The officer’s family established a GoFundMe page to raise money for medical expenses.

The charity boxing match, called Guns ‘N’ Hoses, will go on as scheduled in Haddock’s honor.
