COLUMBIA, S.C. — An incident occurred at Oconee County Detention Center on Sunday that resulted in two inmates and two correctional officers being sent to an area hospital.
Law enforcement officers from the Walhalla Police Department and the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Detention Center around 4:22 p.m. after an altercation was reported. The detention center was put on lockdown, and at approximately 5 p.m., the inmates were all secure in their respective cells, said sheriff’s office public information liaison Jimmy Watt.
There was no information about the injuries, but those involved were treated by paramedics on the scene and two correctional officers along with two inmates were transported to Oconee Memorial Hospital.
The incident remains under investigation.
