BUNKER HILL, Ind. — A Miami correctional officer was brutally attacked by an inmate with a “lock in a sock”.
WISH reports that CO William Ross was struck in the face and head by inmate Jonathan Lovelace before being knocked to the ground and kicked in the head. Ross was then taken to a hospital and released. He is expected to make a full recovery.
“It is a shame that any staff member has to suffer this kind of trauma, from those they are working to protect. It is a clear indication of our staff’s commitment and dedication to the goals of the agency, despite the inherent danger,” said Executive Director and MCF Interim Warden William K. Wilson. “We will aggressively seek criminal prosecution for this senseless act.”
A “lock in a sock” refers to a heavy lock being balled into a sock, which is intended to be used as a weapon.
An investigation into the attacks is still ongoing, and charges will be filed upon completion, according to WNDU.
