YAKIMA, Wash. — A 22-year-old Yakima man previously charged with assaulting the mother of his children is now accused of attacking a county corrections officer earlier this month.
Julian Juarez had to be shocked with a Taser during the March 5 altercation in the North Front Street jail, according to a probable cause affidavit filed by the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office.
Yakima County Superior Court Judge Richard Bartheld set Juarez’s bail at $250,000 Thursday, and ordered him held on suspicion of third-degree assault. That bail is on top of the $250,000 bail that was set for the earlier charges.
Juarez was being moved into a housing unit on the jail’s fourth floor when he objected, yelling obscenities at a corrections officer, the affidavit said.
The officer was punched in the face and head when he tried to control Juarez, the affidavit said.
The punching was enough to cause the officer’s mouth to bleed, the affidavit said.
At the time of the incident, Juarez was being held on charges of assault and violating a protective order after prosecutors say he repeatedly punched his ex-girlfriend in January.
