HUTTONSVILLE, W.Va. — An inmate struck a Huttonsville Correctional Center officer in the face multiple times during a March 1 attack.
Willis James Wilson, 30, spoke with the corrections officer in his cell, then stepped out to continue the conversation on the catwalk of the dormitory, The Inter-Mountain reported.
Wilson turned and struck the officer in the face multiple times. Officials said the CO attempted to defend himself, but Wilson continued to attack him.
Wilson allegedly turned toward other inmates, removed his shirt, flexed and attacked the officer a again, according to the publication.
Backup arrived to detain Wilson after the officer went into Wilson’s cell and shut the door.
The officer was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for a double fracture of his left orbital bone, multiple contusions and lacerations.
Wilson was serving a sentence for second-degree murder, the publication reported. He is now charged with one felony count of unlawful assault on an officer.
