HARTFORD, Conn. — An inmate has been charged with a serious assault on a correction officer, state police said.

Jachim Lamar Brown, 27, assaulted a guard at the Corrigan-Radgowski Corrrectional Center, 986 Norwich-New London Turnpike, in the Uncasville section of Montville Friday, they said. The officer was taken to the William W. Backus Hospital for treatment.

Brown was booked at the prison and transferred to Northern Correctional Institution, a maximum security prison in Somers, state police said.

He was being jailed on charges that include criminal attempt to commit murder, unlawful discharge of a firearm and two counts of criminal attempt to commit assault on a public safety officer, according to court records.
