FARMINGTON — A Wilton man is accused of head-butting a corrections officer and giving him a black eye while he was being processed on an operating under the influence charge, Franklin County Lt. David Rackliffe said Wednesday.

Jail Sgt. Walter Fails arrested Nicholas Didonna, 31, on Tuesday on a felony charge of assault on an officer, he said.

Didonna was arrested on the operating under the influence charge on Jan. 30. He was released on $3,000 unsecured bail.

Fails called Didonna back to the jail after his release to interview him in regards to the assault, Rackliffe said.

As a result of the investigation, Didonna was arrested on the assault charge, he said.

The head-butt did tissue damage as well as giving the corrections officer a black eye, he said.

Didonna was released on $1,000 cash bail on Tuesday.

He is scheduled to appear in a Farmington court on March 3.
