PITTSBURGH — Officials say an inmate smashed a plate of food in a sheriff’s deputy’s face and grabbed his weapon before he was stopped by another officer’s stun gun while trying to escape from a Pittsburgh hospital.
Allegheny County Chief Deputy Kevin Kraus says 33-year-old Steven Woodson was being treated at Allegheny General Hospital when he attacked the deputy on Friday. Kraus says Woodson grabbed a plate off a lunch tray and smashed the deputy in the face and grabbed his gun. The two struggled over the weapon until another officer heard the commotion and stun-gunned Woodson.
Woodson is accused of raping a Philadelphia woman on New Year’s Day and exposing himself on a Pittsburgh trolley.
He was returned to Allegheny County Jail, where Kraus says he’ll be held without bond to face new charges.
