SCHUYLKILL COUNTY, Pa. — A 25-year-old male inmate faces several assault charges after attacking a corrections officer at 4:31 p.m. Saturday at Schuylkill County Prison. City police said Barry Morgan, Pottsville, kicked open his cell door after Corrections Officer Andrew Runkle unlocked it to deliver food.

Morgan refused to move to the rear of the cell and punched Runkle on the left side of his face near his eye, knocking his glasses off, police said. While restraining Morgan, Runkle also suffered an injury to his right hand and required treatment at Schuylkill Medical Center-East Jackson Street, police said.

Police said Runkle had a swollen right hand, a small bruise near his left eye and broken glasses that were estimated at $200.
