Opening statements are expected Wednesday in the murder trial of a convicted rapist accused of killing a corrections officer in the Monroe Prison more than two years ago.
Byron Scherf admitted that to killing 34-year-old Jayme Biendl inside the prison chapel shortly after the January 2011 murder. But he’s fighting the charges now because he claims prosecutors refused to make good on privileges he said they promised him in exchange for the confession.
