STORMVILLE, N.Y. — Six Green Haven Correctional Facility officers suffered minor injuries while escorting inmates to the prison clinic to receive medication.

According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, a female CO was escorting three inmates, Charlie Scott, Dontavious Wiley and Gerald Howard, Tuesday night to receive medication when Scott became disruptive in the hallway.

While the CO tried to calm Scott, the other two inmates surrounded her.

Wiley “charged the female officer, grabbed her and they both fell to the ground,” the union said. “Wiley struck the female officer in the face, as well as the second officer who had come to her aid. A third officer who had responded to the scene was grabbed by the arm and dragged to the ground by the inmate.”

Officers searched Wiley and found a makeshift glass shank hidden in his underwear.

The union told the publication a total of six officers were injured during the violent struggles with the inmates.

Two COs were transferred to a local hospital, while the remaining officers were treated on site.

“We are very lucky that none of our officers sustained serious injuries but it easily could have turned out that way, especially after we learned one inmate was armed with a makeshift weapon,” Mike Mazzella, vice president of NYSCOPBA Mid-Hudson Region, said in a statement.

The inmates are facing internal disciplinary charges. It has yet to be determined if they will face further criminal charges.
