HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. — A corrections officer was attacked by two inmates during routine cell checks.
Deputy Dillon Huffman was conducting cell checks on the second floor Wednesday when two inmates lured him into their cell, the Sacramento Bee reported. The inmates began repeatedly punching and kicking Huffman, almost throwing him down the stairs.
In the midst of the attack, Huffman was able to radio for backup. The fight lasted approximately 34 seconds until backup arrived.
Lorence Bailey and Jonah Little were immediately taken back into custody where they now face disciplinary hearings, the Redheaded Blackbelt reported. Huffman was treated at a local hospital for numerous contusions and abrasions and released. He is expected to fully recover.
Sheriff William Honsal called for more resources from the state in a news conference in response to the increased attacks on COs, the North Coast Journal reported. He said this is the 22nd attack on corrections officers in 2017.
