KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A sheriff’s office released video of an inmate punching and stabbing a CO at a Tennessee detention facility.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office said 21-year-old Talanda Yarbrough was being let out of her cell for recreation time Sunday when she attacked a CO at the Roger D. Wilson Detention Facility, WATE reported. The sheriff’s office said the inmate punched the officer in the face before grabbing the CO’s ponytail and pulling her head down.
Yarbrough then grabbed the officer’s pen from her shirt sleeve and stabbed the CO in her head and arms. Responding officers eventually intervened.
The officer, who hasn’t been identified, was taken to a hospital where she received seven staples to the back of her head. She was also treated for other injuries.
“Many times, corrections officers are considered the forgotten law enforcement officer,” said the sheriff’s office in a statement. “They, as well as patrol officers, put their lives on the line every day.”
Yarbrough has been charged with attempted first-degree murder. She was initially held at the jail for beating her grandmother over a cellphone.
