COOK COUNTY, Ill. — The Cook County Sheriff’s Office has released four videos capturing attacks on corrections deputies in an attempt to show the public the danger those in corrections face on a daily basis.

The videos all capture events that occurred in May. In one harrowing video, an inmate can be seen punching an officer multiple times before backup arrives and subdues the inmate.

In addition to the footage of the violent attacks, the sheriff’s office provided links to details surrounding each case.

“There is arguably no job more difficult than that of a correctional deputy. In Cook County Jail, correctional deputies are sometimes subjected to outrageous treatment from inmates, particularly those in the maximum security divisions that house the most violent offenders. Many inmates seek to harass deputies through physical attacks, throwing urine and feces, indecent exposure, verbal threats and more,” the agency wrote in a press release.

All of the perpetrators shown in the videos have been charged with aggravated battery of a peace officer. 163 Cook County inmates have been charged with battery to a peace officer since January 2015, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
