KENNEWICK, Wash. — A Washington corrections officer was killed in a car crash.
The Tri-City Herald reports that 30-year-old Officer Christopher M. Sotelo died after losing control of his vehicle early Tuesday morning. Sgt. Matt Newton said the officer’s car spun out and the driver’s side slammed into a tree, a fence and a light pole.
Sotelo, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said speed may have contributed to the fatal wreck.
Sotelo worked as a CO at the Coyote Ridge Corrections Center since 2012.
“He was a well-liked gentleman,” Lori Wonders, the public information officer for the institution, said.
