Probation officers may have been conducting a check on a probationer

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Franklin County probation officer and another person have been shot on the East Side.

A probation officer called into Columbus police that his partner had been shot, as well as the suspect, at 2850 Petzinger Rd., according to a police dispatcher.

The suspect was pronounced dead at about 10:11 a.m. at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center, where the probation officer was taken as well.

A neighbor on nearby Kingsrowe Court, who didn’t want to give his name, said he was outside when he saw the two probabtion officers outside the apartment. One was in the front and the other in the rear if the townhome.

He said one officer went in the front door and the other followers. Shortly after, the neighbor said, he heard three gunshots.
