BIRMINGHAM, UK — An expletive-filled rap video was created by two HMP Birmingham inmates on a contraband cell phone and uploaded to the Internet.

ITV reports that Demehl Thomas and Moysha Shepard have been identified as the inmates in the video.

The two inmates, dressed in black and alternately rapping in the video, don’t share a cell at the prison. It’s unclear what room they filmed the video in.

Officials at the prison were tipped off about the cell phone last week but a search did not turn up the contraband in either of the prisoner’s cells.

“Like every other prison in the country, it is a constant challenge to detect and seize contraband items such as mobile phones,” prison director Pete Small said. “Our prison custody officers are trained to look for contraband and we conduct regular and targeted cell searches to remove mobile phones, chargers and sim cards.

“In this instance, searches had already been carried out based on intelligence gathered and, as a result of the information received, further searches will be conducted.”

Thomas is serving a sentence for aggravated burglary and parole violation. Shepard is serving time for complicity in a prison escape.

An investigation into the incident is underway. In 2013 alone, a total of 7,541 illegal phones or sim cards were discovered in jails around the country.
